Our San Antonio Tick Control Team Highlights 4 Tick Removal Best Practices
Dec 10, 2017
The tick control experts here at Family Pest Control in San Antonio have spent many years analyzing the challenges families face in removing ticks from their property. But we’re also adept at helping families understand how to remove the tick from the skin after it has bitten a person. In this latest post, we’ll provide our four best practices for removing ticks from a person’s skin.
Use Tweezers to Grip the Tick
Using a pair of tweezers, carefully grip the tick as close to the person’s skin as possible. The person may sense a slight pinching feeling, but this feeling will only last for a second or two.
Pull Upward With Steady Pressure
By pulling upward on the tweezers, the tick can be quickly and effectively removed from the skin. But it’s critical to take some time to complete this process, as going too quickly could cause the tick to bite down further.
Clean The Bite
After the tick has been removed from the skin, clean the affected area carefully with an iodine scrub, water, and soap. This will help to remove any leftover bacteria on the skin and prevent the bite from growing in size over the coming days.
Watch For Signs Of Illness
After a person has been bitten by a tick, it’s important to check for the signs of Lyme disease. These signs include nausea, headaches, and tiredness. If the person experiences any or all of these symptoms in the coming days, take them to a doctor.
